Pre Swiss National Day Meal: Älplermagrone

Today is The Swiss National Day , which is celebrated on August 1st.

So first off ♥ Happy 1. August ♥ or the Swiss folks :) !

I never really celebrate anything much, but since this is the last swiss national day (for now) I will experience, I decided to celebrate a little bit with some typical swiss Homemade cooking!

I'll start with my "pre swiss national day" - Meal: Älpermagarone

I made this one yesterday, since the big meal from today is not done yet I will be putting te recipe up tomorrow!

Älpermagrone is a swiss dish that originates from the Alps and is very native. That's also where it got the name part "Älper" from, this term was used for people living in the Alps.
It is a rather simple dish made with potatoes, onions, pasta and cream. There are some variations, for example with bacon.

I do them a little bit my own way, I use bacon sometimes but never onions, since rarely cook with onions in generell. But the original recipe must have onions, cut in long strings usually.

here's the recipe for 2 dishes:

400g Potatoes (waxed)
200g Penne/Macaroni  I used tricolore pasta since I was out of penne, hence it looks so colorful LOL
1dl    Cream
200g Bacon Cubes  stripes are also common to use
120g Swiss Cheese (grated) I used Appenzellerer Cheese since it's a spicy kind and fits very nice.
TblS Salt
pinch of Muskat
and a casserole or gratin pan

First the potatoes need to be peeled and washed.
Now bring about 1-1.5l water, well salted, to boil.

While the water is boiling up, cut the potatoes in chunky bite sized bits.

Put them into the water, lower the head to mid-high and let them boil for 10minutes.

Now add the pasta to it, lower the heat to medium and let it cook for another 10-15 minutes (depending on the pasta). Both mustn't fall apart but be very tender when biting into it.

While this is cooking, prepare a saucepan and put cream, muskat in it und heat it up a little.

As soon as it's starts cooking add the bacon to it.

Cook the sauce on low heat for about 6minutes.

Also you can now quickly prepare a gratin/casserole pan with cheese. You can put it as much as you like.
I use half the package usually, since I LOVE CHEESE :D
And preheat the oven with 150°C.

After the potatoes&pasta are done, drain them well

and put them in the prepared gratin/casserole dish.

Pour sauce over it and mix it a bit on the top and middle. Then put the remaining cheese all over it.

Now off it goes in to the oven. Leave it in until it's baked an d has a tiny crust on the top.
I took it out earlier, since I wasn't in the mood for a crust xD But I usually love it!

So it's now all nicely melted together and ready :)

It can now be placed on the plates for serving :)!

Enjoy :D

Tomorrow I'll present you a more "ambitious" dish ;)
